Breaking Through: Empowering Prisoners for a fresh start!
A groundbreaking training program at Wooroloo Prison Farm, delivered by Yalagan Registered Training (YRT) in partnership with the WA Department of Corrections, is transforming lives and bridging the gap between incarceration and meaningful employment.

Ten participants have successfully completed the inaugural ‘Breaking Through’ training course, equipping them with industry-recognized skills and a Certificate II in Resource Processing (Rock Crushing). This qualification opens doors to high-demand industries such as mining, construction, and local government, where skilled workers are urgently needed.
From Training to Employment
The success of this program is already evident—nearly all graduates have secured jobs or are actively interviewing with potential employers. This outcome highlights the real-world impact of vocational training in rehabilitation, giving individuals the opportunity to contribute positively to society upon release.
Industry Connections & Career Pathways
A key feature of the program was the opportunity for graduates to meet and engage with representatives from over 50 companies at the graduation event. This direct industry exposure is instrumental in building professional networks and securing employment, reinforcing the Department’s commitment to rehabilitation and reintegration.
A Second Chance, A Stronger Workforce
Programs like ‘Breaking Through’ are a testament to the power of education and skills training in reducing recidivism, creating job-ready workers, and fostering a more inclusive workforce. By investing in vocational training, we are not only giving individuals a second chance but also strengthening key industries that rely on skilled labor.
This is just the beginning. With the success of this initiative, we look forward to expanding opportunities for more individuals to break through barriers and build brighter futures.
